Christian Leaders Launch Declaration Responding to Kairos II Following Church of England Synod Debate

A new declaration calls on Christians to reject theological antisemitism and reaffirm biblical reconciliation, justice and peace.

London, United Kingdom — 14 July 2026

A coalition of Christian leaders, theologians, pastors and lay representatives has today launched the Declaration Against Kairos II, a public statement responding to the recently debated Kairos II document and urging churches worldwide to reject what the declaration describes as "theological distortions that damage Jewish-Christian relations and hinder genuine peace."

Published at www.declaration-against-kairos.com, the declaration has been released following significant debate surrounding the Church of England General Synod's consideration of Kairos II also called A Moment of Truth: Faith in a time of Genocide. The declaration seeks to provide a biblical response to Kairos II and any other secular, Marxist, or unscriptural framework or theology of liberation whilst affirming compassion for all and a desire for peace.

The declaration states that Christians are called to pursue justice and peace, while rejecting interpretations of Scripture and current geopolitical events that foster hostility towards the Jewish people or deny the continuing significance of God's covenant purposes.

Among its central affirmations, the declaration:

  • Rejects all forms of Christian antisemitism.
  • Affirms the enduring biblical relationship between the Jewish people and the land of Israel.
  • Calls Christians to pursue reconciliation rather than division.
  • Condemns terrorism, antisemitism and hatred in all their forms.
  • Encourages churches to engage with the complexities of the conflict rightly and fairly.
  • Invites Christians across denominations to stand together in prayer for justice, peace and security for all peoples of the region.

Initiator of the Declaration Regan King (Pastor, The Angel Church, Angel Islington, London) said:

"The Church has a responsibility to speak truthfully, biblically and with humility. We grieve the immense suffering that is ongoing in the Holy Land. We believe Christians must reject all narratives that undermine the legitimacy of Israel and the God ordained and sovereignly orchestrated existence of the same. At a time of increased and rampant antisemitism, it is astounding that the Church of England's General Synod has agreed to give a thoroughly dishonest and ascerbic document any hearing, a document that undermines the rights of the Jewish people and demonises Israel, even seeking to rationalise the horrendous atrocity of October 7 2023. Kairos II fails to pursue reconciliation and peace and accepts no responsibility for the plethora of atrocities carried out historically against Israel by self-identifying Palestinians. Furthermore, the document avoids recognising or referencing the many voices of Arab-Israelis and Palestinians who have a very different perspective and do not see Israel as the root cause of Palestinian suffering. It is truly grievous that the Church of England has ventured far from its rich tradition of support for the Jewish people as exemplified by the likes of William Wilberforce, Charles Simeon, and Bishop J.C. Ryle. Kairos II distorts Scripture and deepens division. This Christian Declaration Against Kairos II is an appeal for biblical faithfulness, genuine reconciliation and gospel hope."

The declaration launch invites church leaders, ministers, theologians and lay Christians from around the world to add their names in support of the declaration.

The Declaration signatories hope the initiative will encourage respectful theological engagement while strengthening Jewish-Christian relationships at a time of heightened tension and increasing concern over antisemitism.
